Adelaide Spence

Funeral service for Adelaide Julie Spence, 99, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Friday, January 13, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Pastor Thomas Olson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Adelaide Julie (Gilyard) Spence was born in Wheaton Minnesota on September 2, 1912. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1931 and shortly after that moved to Minneapolis to work as a secretary. From there she went to California where she met and married Golden Spence. She returned to Minnesota to live and work on the family farm southeast of Wheaton. She later was employed by her brother-in-law, Dr. Lindberg, as an assistant in his family practice. Adelaide was a long-time member of Hope Lutheran Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Adelaide passed away January 6, 2012 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. Adelaide is survived by a son, David "Pete" of Monticello, Minnesota; David's partner, Nancy; and two grandsons, Nels and Bob. Adelaide was preceded in death by her father, Nels Gilyard; mother, Gina (Nesset) Gilyard; two brothers, Ben and Norman; and a sister, Gladys.
