Alfred Peterson

Alfred Warren (Sonny) Peterson was born in the north twin brick house near Mud Lake in West Lake Valley Township to Alfred Eric Peterson and Anna Elizabeth (Anderson) Peterson on March 18, 1915. His parents had not decided on a name for him so for a time they just called him Sonny. Sonny spent part of his childhood living in that home and Alfred & Annies home in Wheaton. He and his brother Wesley Peterson helped their father with his farming and other businesses during their youth. Sonny attended Wheaton schools and excelled in math, football and basketball. After his high school he played basketball with the Wheaton town team. He and his high school sweetheart, Beulah Louise Nadeau, graduated from Wheaton High School in the class of 1933. Sonny and Beulah were united in marriage in White Rock, South Dakota on June 16, 1936 and for the next 30 years they lived in the north twin brick house and Sonny farmed. Sonny and Beulah had two sons, Alfred Ray (Pete) Peterson and Bruce Edward Peterson and they were raised on that farm and helped Sonny with the farming. After the boys had graduated from Wheaton High School and left the farm, Sonny and Beulah moved to the twin cities where Sonny became a Correctional Counselor with the Minnesota State Department of Corrections at the juvenile center at Lino Lakes. After Sonny retired from his position with the Department of Corrections he and Beulah returned to Wheaton and enjoyed their retirement years living in the house that Sonnys father, Alfred Eric Peterson had built on the corner just south of the Wheaton Hospital. Beulah died in May of 1997 and Sonny lived out his remaining years and died in his home on October 12, 2006. Sonny will be remembered for his strength and kindness and will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He and Beulah were devoted members of the Bethlehem Covenant Church and he enjoyed his family and friends, sports, music, fishing, hunting, traveling with Beulah and fixing things . He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sadie, his sweetheart Beulah, his brother Wesley, his sister Inez, and son Alfred Ray.
