She married John K. Olhoft October 20, 1939 and moved to their family farm west of Norcross, MN. John died in 1965 and Amanda married Helmer Schmidt of Norcross on June 10, 1967. They farmed east of Norcross until Helmer's death in 2008 when she moved to the Pullman House apartment in Herman. After a fall in 2013 with fractured vertebra she lived at the Traverse Care Center.

She was a busy homemaker with canning, baking, feeding field workers, cleaning milking equipment and raising poultry using cluck hens as incubators.
