Brian Schultz

Brian D. Schultz, age 43, of Owatonna died unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at his home. Brian Douglas Schultz was born on July 21st, 1972 in St. Cloud, MN to Don and Donna (nee) Swanson Schultz. When he was three years old the family moved to Wheaton, MN. Through his high school years he formed many close friendships that he has maintained throughout his life. He had a very successful high school athletic career and was named the Senior Athlete MVP and honored as a member of the All State Football team. He graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He met his perfect love and life partner, Kelly Hoffman, at Concordia and they were married June 15th, 1996. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Sydney Marie (15) and Maya Faye (13). In 1999 he graduated with a Master Degree in anesthesia and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Over the course of his career he served as a staff CRNA in Fargo, ND, District One Hospital in Faribault, Owatonna Hospital, and most recently Northfield Hospital. Brian enjoyed every moment of his life. His dad taught him to hunt, fish, and golf at an early age and he loved these activities into his adult life. These hobbies he enjoyed, but his life's passion was his family. He was an avid supporter of Sydney and Maya's sports activities - the entire family logged many hours on the basketball and volleyball courts across the state of Minnesota. Off the court, he enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Beaver Lake. The speedboat was a source of family entertainment - and he would happily spend hours pulling the girls and their friends on the tube - and just this past summer teaching them to waterski. Words cannot express how much this loving, wonderful, "quirky" father, son, husband, brother, and friend, will be missed. He will never know the impact he had on every single person who had the honor and privilege to know him - the void he leaves is immeasurable. We send him on the next part of his journey with all of our love. We will always love you Bri-Bri. Brian is survived by his wife, Kelly Schultz of Owatonna; two daughters, Sydney and Maya Schultz, both at home; his parents, Donald and Donna Schultz of Faribault; a sister, Robin (and Chris) Carson of Chandler, AZ and their son, Zach Carson; a brother, Brian (and Cindi) Schwanke of Rochester; his grandparents, Carol and Gerald Allen of Wheaton; his father and mother-in-law, Art and Janette Hoffman of Owatonna; a sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Dale Simon of Owatonna and their children, Ian Simon, Grace Simon and Audrey Simon. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and also one hour prior to the service at the church. A Celebration of Brian's life will be held Thursday, September 24, 2015 beginning at 11 am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Owatonna with the Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family and a memorial fund will be set up for the girls in Brian's memory.
