Darryl Dean was born on September 19, 1935 to Walter and Alice (Ahlsten) Raguse in Wahpeton, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Monson Township near Wheaton.

Darryl attended country school in Monson Township through the 8th grade while helping on the family farm.

In December of 1954, Darryl proudly began his service to his country by enlisting in the United States Army where he obtained his GED. Darryl was stationed in California where he served until his honorable discharge in December of 1957.

It was while he was serving his country in California that Darryl met Judith Jeanette Rensch and they were united in marriage in Modesto, CA on December 28, 1957.

After their wedding Darryl and Judy returned to the family farm near Wheaton. This union was blessed with four children. Three sons: Kenneth (who died in infancy), Kevin and David, and one daughter Kimberly.

Darryl and Judy remained married until cancer claimed Judy’s life and she was called to reside with the Lord in February of 1994.

Darryl farmed near Wheaton for the majority of his working life until he made a career change to driving truck. Initially transporting livestock and eventually transitioning to driving for Schaefer Construction until his retirement.

Subsequent to his retirement, Darryl returned to live in Wheaton where he became very close with Rose Beadle. They enjoyed several years’ together living initially in Wheaton and later at Countryside Inn assisted living center in Rosholt, SD until Darryl’s declining health forced him to make the transition to Traverse Care Center in Wheaton, where he was residing at the time of his death.

Darryl never lost his interest in farming and, together, he and Rose enjoyed car rides around the area to watch the progress of the growing crops and the progress of the harvest.

Darryl very much enjoyed playing card games of virtually any kind, some of which, he occasionally made up as he went along; and he was always, always on the prowl in search of more ice cream!

Darryl was not a complicated man. But he was a good man with a dry wit who always had a joke to tell.

Darryl was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by everyone who ever met him!

Daryl is survived by his children: Son Kevin Raguse; Son David (Susan) Raguse; Daughter Kimberly Raguse; grandchildren: Erica Raguse; Justin (partner Krista Olson) Raguse; Travis Raguse; Troy (Natasha) Raguse, Trisha Raguse; and Truman Raguse; great-grandchildren: Kayleen Broetzmann; Kristofer Raguse; Konnor Raguse; Taydon Raguse; and Tucker Raguse; brother Raymond (Evie) Raguse; nephews: Mike (Dawn) Raguse; and Bryan (Karen) Raguse; and special friend: Rose Beadle.

Daryl was preceded in death by his wife Judy; his infant son Kenny; and his parents Walter and Alice Raguse.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Wheaton Community Diner for kitchen improvements.
