Duane Zimmer

Funeral Services for Duane Zeke Zimmer will be held Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, Minnsota with Fr. Joe Vandeberg officiating. There will visitation Friday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Ranney Funeral Home in Wheaton. Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton. Zeke was born on July 25, 1921 in Bellwood Nebraska to Frank and Charlotte (Kosch) Zimmer. He attended rural school there at District 13. Duane farmed with his father until joining the Navy in 1942. Following the war he returned home and again farmed and worked milk cows with his dad. In 1961 he married Dolores Kunkee, and shortly thereafter moved to Wheaton, Minnesota where he bought his own farm, east of Wheaton. Zeke retired from farming in 1993, when his wife Dolores also retired from teaching. In the winters he would do some work for Walrath Heating and Air Conditioning, and some for Larsons Oil. In their retirement years, Zeke and Dolores spent winters down south in either Texas, Florida, Arizona or California. Zeke was an avid motorcyclist and bought his first bike when he was 16, and sold his last motorcycle when he was 80 years old. He loved to visit friends, travel and sight-see, and also loved roller skating. Duane moved to the Grace Home in September of 2007. Duane passed away Tuesday morning at the Grace Home in Graceville, Minnesota at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his Dolores of Wheaton, one brother: Carol (Geri) Zimmer of Bellwood, Nebraska, one sister-in-law: Lois Hall of Bellwood, Nebraska, three brothers-in-law: Harold (Joan) Kunkee of Lincoln, Nebraska, Wesley (Cindy) Kunkee of Shelby, Nebraska, Lyle Kunkee of Bellwood, Nebraska, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Lois Spelcher.
