Elroy Sprengeler

Funeral Service for Elroy Sprengeler, 87, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Rev. Charles Horkey officiating. Organist will be Sara Rinke. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wheaton, at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at St. John Lutheran Church. Elroy Reinhard Sprengeler was born on February 29, 1924 in La Crescent, Minnesota to Reinhard and Rachel (Schmidt) Sprengeler. Elroy married Betty Jane Schense on February 15, 1946 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Young America, Minnesota. Elroy and Betty farmed at Cologne, Minnesota before moving to Norcross, Minnesota to farm in 1953. They bought a house and moved into Wheaton, Minnesota in 1990. Betty passed away April 4, 2005. Elroy entered the Bethany Retirement Home in Fargo, North Dakota in July of 2010. Elroy passed away at the Bethany Retirement Home on April 17, 2011. Elroy and Betty spent many years at Big Island Campsite on South Turtle Lake near Underwood, Minnesota. They also enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, flying his airplane, fishing and camping. Elroy is survived by his sister, Aurelia Brockoff of Cologne, Minnesota, sisters-in-law: Lillian Sprengeler and Dorothy Schense, brothers-in-law: Allen Schense and Robert Schense, and several nieces and nephews.
