Funeral Services for Gary D. Berg, age 66, of Wheaton, MN, were held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wheaton. Rev. Tom Olson officiated. Visitation was held Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Ranney Funeral Chapel in Wheaton. There was a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Honorary Pallbearers were Bob Krause, Don Otto, Ivan Neuman, Kyle Kolden, and all the past and present committee members of the Wheaton Chapter of the Ducks Unlimited organization. Gary passed away Thursday, March 30th, 2006 at the Wheaton Community Hospital, after a 4-year battle with cancer. Gary was born in Litchfield, MN on September 27, 1939 to Clarence and Helen (Mortenson) Berg. He graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1957. He attended the University of Minnesota for two years. Gary entered the Air Force in 1962 and served his country for two years. Gary worked for the Soil and Water Conservation Services as a Field Technician for thirty-three years, and retired in 1996. He later worked part-time driving the Health Link Van, and also at the Wheaton Country Club. In September of 1982 he married Sandy (Hurley) Berg at St. Matthews Church in Forest City, MN. They were blessed with two children, Ashley and Dustin. Gary was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler, baseball and softball player, and he loved to go dancing with Sandy. He was an active Legion member, and served as a Past Commander. Gary was one of the founding members of the Wheaton Area Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, and served on their board for twenty-five years as treasurer. Gary is survived by his wife Sandy and son Dustin of Wheaton, daughter Ashley and special friend Kyle Kolden of Moorhead, MN, his oldest son Christopher of Florida, and grandchildren Tara and Thomas of Florida. He is also survived by his special mother Phurney Berg of Litchfield, sister: Bonnie (Mike) Scholl of Pelican Rapids, MN, brother: Mortie (Sue) Berg, mother-in-law: Jeanette Hurley and sister-in-law Kim Hurley, all of Litchfield, and several nieces and a nephew. Gary was preceded in death by his father and mother, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
