Gerald Lee "Tator" Hills was born on April 9, 1955 to Adrian and Evelyn (Frey) Hills. His family lived in Beardsley, Minnesota and attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was both baptized and confirmed. He graduated from Beardsley High School. After his education he traveled to Pennsylvania to live and work. While there, he made some great memories with his brother Gary and his wife Peggy. He spent most of his adult life in the North Dakota working for a tire company replacing tires on big equipment in the coal mines. For a period of time that same company sent him to Texas to manage one of their tire stores. He later returned to Beulah, North Dakota where he had many friends and finished his working career. His side job was bartending at the local bar. He enjoyed visiting with the regulars and playing pool and shooting darts. His dart team won several North Dakota Dart Championships. Gerry was always a happy guy that loved to laugh. His family meant the world to him; he enjoyed visits with them and was full of pride when sharing stories of his family. His love for sports began with high school and continued into adulthood. Even though he left Minnesota right after graduation he continued to follow the Minnesota Vikings and Timberwolves. He also enjoyed Nascar and fishing for Northern and Walleye. Gerry will always be remembered by his "good morning greeting" no matter what time of day! Gerry passed away on August 18, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Milbank, South Dakota where he resided the last year and considered the staff his extended family. Gerry is survived by his mother Evelyn Hills of Wheaton; two brothers: Gary (Peg) Hills of Alexandria, Minnesota and James (Jacqui) Hills of Morris, Minnesota; three sisters: Cheryl Halling of Rochester, Minnesota; Terri Torgerson of Huron, South Dakota and Susan Gibson of Milbank, South Dakota; nephews: Christopher Halling, Corey Hills (Tori), Jordon Gibson (Michelle), Shayne Hills (Tenaya), Blaine Hills (Shelby) and Austin Hills; nieces: Chelsie Gibson, Lindsey Torgerson (CJ) and Jaime Torgerson; and great-nieces and great-nephews: Ayden, Kevin, Bailley, Rylee, Brianna, Whyatt, Olivia and Hadley. Gerry was preceded in death by his father Adrian Hills, paternal and maternal grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles.
