Geraldine "Gerry" Barber, age 81, of Herman, Minnesota passed away Friday, September 18, 2020 at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Private Family Service will be held Friday September 25, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bainbridge Funeral Home in Wheaton with Rev. Heather E. Klason officiating. A Public Graveside Service will be held later that day at 1:00 p.m. at Vinger Cemetery, rural Donnelly, Minnesota.
Pallbearers will be Justin Barber, Jeromey Stoneburg, Chad Stoneburg, Derek Stoneburg, Brandon Schmidt and Keith Kaehler. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Anderson, Scott Anderson and Kraig Kaehler.
While maintaining social distancing guidelines, we are now able to gather for visitations and services. The use of face masks by attendees is required. For those who prefer or require continued precautions, webcasting is available.
Gerry was born May 18, 1939 in Morris to John and Hazel (Thompson-Kruize) Anderson. She attended West Central School of Agriculture in Morris and moved to Minneapolis after graduation. Gerry waitressed and worked at the airport. During this time, she met her future husband on a blind date.
She was united in marriage to John W. Barber on November 7, 1959. The couple was blessed with one son, John Lloyd and moved to Donnelly to raise their family.
Gerry, known by many as “Granny” loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, canning, playing cards and puzzles. Granny will be remembered for her captivating storytelling. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary Post 29, AmVets National Ladies Auxiliary and Red Hats.
Gerry is survived by her son: John Lloyd Barber (and his fiance Wanda Stoneburg) of Herman; two grandchildren: Jeromey (Leann) Stoneburg of Chanhassen and Justin (Amanda) Barber of Sebeka; great-grandchildren: Olive and Hazel; sister: Judy Anderson of Crystal; brothers: Bud (Lois) Anderson of Donnelly, George Anderson of Morris, Art Anderson of Donnelly, Howard (Betty) Anderson of Morris; brother-in-law Milfred Kaehler of Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John W. Barber, sister Janice Kaehler and brother Duane Beers.
