Funeral Service for Harriet Irene Solberg, 97, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Ranney Funeral Chapel in Wheaton, Minnesota with Rev. Thomas Olson officiating. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at the Ranney Funeral Chapel. Harriet was born on May 21, 1910 in Raymond, Minnesota to John and Mae (Somerville) Tygeson. She attended and graduated from Annandale High School where her parents published a weekly newspaper the Annandale Advocate. After high school Harriet received a year of teacher training and taught in rural schools. Harriet went back to college at St. Cloud State Teachers College. After graduating, Harriet resumed teaching until 1936 when she took employment at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota where wages were higher and employment was year round. Harriet married Reuben Solberg of Brooten, Minnesota in May of 1942. The coupled resided at New London where Reuben was employed until 1943 when he became manager of the Co-op Food Store in Wheaton. Harriet was also employed at the Co-op store as well as ASCS, Wheaton Gazette and the Winter, Lundquist, Sherwood Law Firm. Harriet was also active in the Wheaton Legion Ladies Auxillary and in the Good Shepherd Lutheran church. Reuben passed away in 1984. Harriet passed away on November 30, 2007 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. Harriet is survived by Cousins: William (Evelyn) Somerville of Raymond, Minnesota, Martha Gravley of Raymond, Minnesota, nieces and nephews: Mary Thaves of Jordan, Minnesota, Karen Revier of Olivia, Minnesota, Carolyn Christensen of Osh Gosh, Wisconsin, Jennifer Heffern of Phoenix, Arizona, Richard Melin of Tuscon, Arizonia, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
