Helen Darkow

Helen (Smith) Darkow died on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at her home in Sioux Falls at the age of 71.

Helen was born on December 12, 1948, the daughter of Edwin and Grace (Whaley) Smith. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Parnell Township, MN. Following graduation from Wheaton High School as valedictorian in 1966, she continued on to the University of Minnesota - Morris and Winona State.

She is survived by her children - Marci (Tim) Berens, Theodore (Brenda) Darkow, and Beth (Jason Feldman) Berens; grandchildren - Matthew Berens, Alexis Darkow, Samantha Darkow, and Rachel Berens; stepbrothers - Rod (Theresa) Thiel and Bob (Gail) Thiel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepdad Gerald Thiel, and her younger sister Mary Smith.

Funeral services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD, on June 29 at 2:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton, MN, on July 1 at 10:00 a.m.
