Funeral Mass for Henry Ahrens, age 91, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Friday, May 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Fr. Joe Vandeberg celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Sanasack with special music provided by the Ave Maria Catholic Church Choir and Doug Frisch. Pallbearers will be David Moberg, Scott Gilsdorf, Brad Ahrens, Chad Klindworth, Jesse Ahrens, Chris Lubben, Eli Ahrens and Kyle Steffenson. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Henry's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. Giftbearers will be Henry's granddaughters: Sheila Gjervold, Carlie Steffenson and Ella Ahrens. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Dumont, Minnesota. Visitation will be held Thursday evening May 23rd from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at Ave Maria Catholic Church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time on Friday morning at the church. Henry "Hank" George Ahrens was born on March 24, 1922 in Brewster, Jackson County, Minnesota to Carl and Sadie (Frey) Ahrens. He married Eleanore Doll on November 25, 1942. To this marriage they were blessed with ten children. Hank and Eleanore started their married life farming east of Dumont. They purchased Club Lunch Café in Dumont in 1952 and raised their children in a small apartment behind the café until 1971. Hank wore many hats in Dumont. Along with managing the café he was the maintenance man for the city of Dumont and took great pride in keeping the city lawn and streets looking good. Hank held the office of police chief and fire chief and was an active fireman for twenty nine years. Hank also drove school bus for Fridgen Bus Lines and later Schmidt Bus for thirty two years. Hanks hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing smear and shaking dice. He especially enjoyed making deer sausage and on occasion sharing his recipe and teaching his children and grandchildren the art of getting it "just right". He was also famous with his family for his homemade donuts and made them often. Henry passed away on Monday afternoon, May 20, 2013 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. Henry is survived by his wife Eleanore of Wheaton; children: Gloria Ahrens of Wheaton; Mary (Tom) Gilsdorf of Graceville, Minnesota; Donna (Steve) Wahl of Wheaton; Joe (Susan) Ahrens of Rogers, Minnesota; Rose (Steve) Lubben of Dumont; Jeff (Sara) Ahrens of Madelia, Minnesota; Jack Ahrens of Maui, Hawaii; and Sue (Chuck) Steffenson of Evansville, Minnesota; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Henry was preceded in death by an infant daughter Patty Ann; son James "Barney" Ahrens; parents Carl and Sadie Ahrens; sisters: Wilma, Marion, Helen and Evie; and one brother Marvin.
