Joel Reckner

Funeral Service for Joel Martin Reckner, 54, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, formerly of the Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Rev. Charles Horkey officiating. Pallbearers will be Arnie Zimmel, Ron Stam, Steve Berger, John Warburton, Brad Borsheim & Dan Swedland. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Joel was born November 4, 1953 at Wheaton Community Hospital to LeRoy and Shirley (Wohlenhaus) Reckner. Joel was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton. Joel and attended Wheaton School, where he was a member of the Debate Team in High School with his brother Jon. After graduating in 1972, he moved to Minneapolis. Joel played guitar in a band. He worked for Coca Cola and the Star Tribune until he went to Minneapolis Tech School. After graduating as an electrician with excellent grades he joined a Minneapolis Electrical Union and had many interesting experiences such as wiring in the Mall of America, the Minneapolis St. Paul Airport, and the Federal Building in Minneapolis. He was very serious about his electrical work and spent hours on refresher courses. Joel loved hunting, fishing, camping and roaming around the farm near Norcross where he grew up, also playing cards and games with his family and friends. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan and a collector of sports memorabilia. He also enjoyed the Wheaton All Class Reunions and Family Reunions. Joel passed away Friday afternoon, November 9, 2007 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Joel is survived by his parents: LeRoy and Shirley Reckner of Wheaton, Minnesota, Brother: James and special friend: Suzann Near of Breckenridge, Minnesota, Aunt: Amy Reckner of Herman, Minnesota, Uncle Lyle (JoAnn) Wohlenhaus of Wheaton, Great Aunt: Nyla Gage of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, dear friends Von and family of St. Paul, Minnesota and many cousins and other friends. Joel was preceded in death by his grandparents: Earl and Mary Reckner, and Howard and Bernice Wohlenhaus his brother: Jon Reckner & sister-in-law: Joanne Reckner.
