Kyle Daniel Brecht

Kyle Daniel Brecht passed away unexpectantly on December 25, 2024, in Bemidji Minnesota at the age of 53.

Kyle was born on July 31,1971 in Carmichael, Sacramento County, California. He moved with his family to Excelsior, Minnesota in June of 1972. Kyle began school at Minnewashta Elementary and graduated from Hopkins High School on June 6, 1990.

Growing up in Minnesota, Kyle was active and enjoyed being outside. He played on a T Ball team and continued for five years of Little League ball. He wasn’t a long ball hitter, but he became a fast base runner. In 1983 he ran in the Hopkins Raspberry Festival 5K. Kyle ran very well, finished the race in good time, and enjoyed winning a ribbon. Kyle was very young when he learned to snow ski with his brother and friends. He began at Buck Hill without using polls. He was soon fearlessly attacking moguls and slopes. Kyle enjoyed many hours skating with friends on the neighborhood ice rinks. Having skates sharpened and taping up new hockey sticks became routine.

Kyle’s dad introduced him to duck and pheasant hunting. He enjoyed the many hours in the fields and blinds with his family. In 1981, at age 10, he won 1st place in the Pee Wee Division of the Minnesota Waterfowl Association Duck Calling Championship. The next day Kyle was invited to show off his duck calling skills on KSTP “Good Company” morning TV program. He was a good shot and usually contributed to a successful hunt. Kyle learned to fish as a young boy and his passion for fishing continued throughout his life. Walleye opener into summer fishing, into winter ice fishing. He loved it all!

In later years family boating entered his life. He was a natural on water skis and his knee board. He loved being on the water whether it was a kayak, canoe, duck boat, fishing boat, or power boat. He was skilled with them all.

Kyle was a skilled carpenter and roofer. He was a good cook and grill master. He could pan fry walleye to perfection, make a delicious batch of chili, grill or smoke just about anything. He even smoked different varieties of cheese in his smoker. Kyle developed a skill to rehabilitate cast iron pans and cookware using a plastic tote, baking soda and battery charger. Kyle would seek out rusty cast iron and make it look brand new when finished.

Kyle loved his two sons and enjoyed time with them. He looked forward to the annual family deer camp for the deer season opener. It was a special time to connect and catch up on life with his sons, dad, brother, family and friends. Sitting in the deer stand maybe they would see a buck, or maybe not. It’s for the companionship. Kyle had a quick wit and could come up with single line joke about most anything. He had a great laugh.

Kyle loved the woods and lakes of Bemidji. He was an early riser and enjoyed the morning sunrise with a good strong cup of coffee. He especially enjoyed his daily walks with his genius dog, Cooper, who he rescued. Kyle was loved and will be missed by his sons Dylan Brecht and Brennan Brecht, his mother Janet Larson, his father Lyle Brecht (Clariece), his brother Craig Brecht (Carol), nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.

Kyle was baptized on May 25th, 1980, at the Edina Covenant Church in Edina, MN and Confirmed on May 3rd, 1987, at the Ben Wade Covenant Church in Lowry, MN.

......” and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
