Luella Virginnia Franklin, age 88, of Wheaton, Minnesota, formerly of Browns Valley, Minnesota passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. A Visitation and Time of Sharing will be held Thursday, March 6th from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Ranney-Bainbridge Funeral Home in Wheaton. Pallbearers will be David Franklin, Steven Franklin, George Schafer III, David Schafer, Richard Krensing and Beverly Krensing. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff at Traverse Care Center and Aaliyah Rodriguez. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, rural Browns Valley, Minnesota. Luella Virginnia Franklin was born on November 12, 1925 in New Effington, South Dakota to William and Ethel (Hunter) Jordan. She was the sixth of thirteen children. Luella grew up in and around New Effington and attended school in Lien Township, South Dakota. In December of 1942 she moved to Joliet, Illinois to live with her aunt. There she worked at the American Greeting Card Company and American Beauty Macaroni factory. In 1945 she moved to Peoria, Illinois to work at the Caterpillar Tractor Company, along with her girlfriend Ann. This is where she met her future husband, Paul Franklin. They were married on June 14, 1947 in Peoria. Paul passed away in 1973. Luella worked at the Farm Restaurant, Steak and Shake, Wietz Chicken Shack, Heritage House, Famous Recipe Fried Chicken and at Bergner's in Peoria until her retirement. She was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan, religiously watching the ball games on WGN. She worked on word search books and enjoyed reading magazines. She loved playing cards, Chinese Checkers, shopping, eating out and vacationing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her special bond with her great-granddaughter Aaliyah will remain unbroken. They made each other laugh and enjoyed playing games, doing nails and gossiping. She enjoyed going on day trips with her daughter, son-in-law and his parents and visiting with her step-great grandchildren. She lived in Peoria, Illinois until 1996 when she moved to Sisseton South Dakota, and then to Browns Valley Minnesota. Her last residence was at Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. While living at the Traverse Care Center she enjoyed the Adopt-A-Grandparent program through Wheaton grade school, going to activities and visiting with staff. She especially loved visiting with her roommate Gloria and her daughter Anne Marie. Luella is survived by four children: David (Debbie) Franklin of Greer, South Carolina, Steven Franklin of Peoria, Illinois, Beverly (Richard) Krensing of Browns Valley, Minnesota, and Diann Franklin of Peoria, Illinois. She has four granddaughters and two grandsons, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and eight step great-granddaughters. Luella is preceded in death by her husband Paul, granddaughter Jennifer, parents, two brothers, seven sisters, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law.
