Mae Johnson

Funeral Service for Mae W. Johnson, 92, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Rev. Thomas Olson officiating. Pallbearers will be Maes Grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 21st from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Ranney Funeral Home in Wheaton. Visitation will continue Thursday morning one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery at a later date. Mae was born on November 1, 1919 in Fargo, North Dakota and adopted shortly after by Art and Cora Worner of Wheaton, Minnesota. She graduated as salutatorian of the Wheaton High school Class of 1937. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College. On February 14, 1941 she married Francis Wilton Tony Johnson. Tony and Mae had four children born to this union. The couple was very involved in civic, school and church activities. Together, they owned and operated the International Harvester and Oldsmobile dealerships in Wheaton until 1967. Tony started a new job as Sales Tax Auditor for the State of Minnesota which moved them to Worthington, Minnesota. Mae worked there as Office Manager for Heles Plumbing Supply until her retirement. Following her retirement she returned to Wheaton to be near family. She seldom missed a local concert, play, or ballgame; still attending activities into her nineties. Mae played bridge, went to study club, and rarely missed coffee with friends. But, her greatest love was reading and she frequently was reading three or four books at one time! Mae was a bright, curious, adventuresome person, who enjoyed nothing more than having a good conversation and some laughs with friends and neighbors. She lived her life fully involved in community and church organizations and was a volunteer tax preparer well into her eighties. She will be sadly missed by many people. Mae passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Sanford Medical Center in Wheaton. Mae is survived by her children, Art (Judit) Johnson of Florence, New Jersey; Bob (Carol) Johnson of Burnsville, Minnesota; Janet (Allen) Weick of Wheaton; and Steve (Georgia) Johnson of Astoria, New York; nine grandchildren, Christine (Brad) Rindufss, Michelle (Tom) Gronwold, Sondra (Joel) Chadwick, Tony (Monica) Weick, Catherine (Jay) Myers, Kelly Johnson, Christine Harker, Edward (Christine) Johnson and Robert (Ann) Johnson, and fifteen great-grandchidlren. Mae was preceded in death by her husband, F.W. Tony Johnson and parents, Art and Cora Worner.
