Margarie Marie (Plautz) Krumwiede was born on January 19, 1929, in Rock Falls, Illinois, to Walter and Emma Plautz. She was baptized on February 10, 1929, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Rock Falls.
On March 1, 1940, her family moved to a farm near Wheaton, Minnesota. Margarie attended School District No. 52 and later Tintah High School for two years before transferring to Wheaton High School, where she graduated in 1946. During her school years, she worked at the Corner Drug Store.
Following graduation, Margarie worked at the Co-Op, then at the Telephone Company, and later was employed by County Recorder Melvin Boe. She faithfully served in the Recorder’s Office for 33 years. After Melvin’s retirement, Margarie and Edna Mae Niss purchased the abstract business, which they operated until Margarie retired in 1992.
On June 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Willard Krumwiede. They began their life together farming northeast of Wheaton before moving north of town, where they lived for 40 years. In 1992, they built a new home in Wheaton. With the help of Gordon, Willard, and Don (son-in-law), they completed the interior of their home themselves.
Margarie and Willard were blessed with four children, twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. Willard passed away on June 11, 2005, at the age of 75 following a battle with cancer.
She was a devoted member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she was active in Naomi Circle, sang in the church choir, and served on many committees. Her service included quilting, singing for nursing home residents, and teaching both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Margarie had a deep love for her family and found great joy in making quilts and afghans for them. She cherished attending her grandchildren’s volleyball, basketball, and softball games. She also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and gathering with friends over coffee. Family time at the lake was especially meaningful to her, as were the many trips she took to Arizona, Canada, Branson, and beyond.
Margarie is survived by her DAUGHTER: Kathy (Tom) Mord of Saskatchewan, Canada; and their children Jason (Larry) and daughters Mikayla and Bobbi Ann, and Matt; and foster grandchild Josh; DAUGHTER: Pam Bertram of Montrose, Minnesota and her children: Stacy (Tom) Waltzing and their children Nick, Jack, Madelyn and Alivia; Shannon (Kim) Bertram and their children Brennen, Lily, Jaeli, Brielle, Emily and Michael; Jamie Bertram and their daughter Adrienna; DAUGHTER: Wanda (Don) Boelke of Cold Spring, Minnesota and their children Cari Busch and her children Makayla and Brenden; Kristi (Tony) Klein and their children Parker and Zoey; and Ryan (Sarah) Boelke and Andy Boelke; SON: Gordon (Shawn Ellingson) Krumwiede and their children Jennifer (Toni) Blume and their children Landon and Everett; Andrea (Caleb) Dawson and their children Ryker, Zachary and Railyn; Heather (Steven) Hoddle and Dane Ellingson. Margarie is also survived by sister-in-law Joyce Plautz; brother-in-law Wesley (Vivian) Krumwiede; and many nieces and nephews.
Margarie was preceded in death by her husband Willard; parents Walter and Emma Plautz; sister Betty and her husband Howard Baxter; brother Dewayne Plautz; and son Dennis Krumwiede who died at birth.
