Mildred "Millie" Jeanette Kjorness was born in Minneota, Minnesota, on June 30, 1918, the third child of Thorvald and Mabel Kjorness and a descendant of Norwegian and Danish immigrants. The Kjorness family lived on a farm near Elbow Lake most of Millie's childhood. In her early adulthood, they moved to a farm near Herman where she met Harold "Scotty" Schuman. They married on July 12, 1942, and made their home on his family farm just outside Herman. Millie and Scotty waltzed and polkaed through life, enjoying the frequent company of friends and family from near and far. They were blessed with one daughter, Janie, who married Richard Hansen of nearby Morris. Richard and Janie gave Millie and Scotty two granddaughters, who loved to visit the farm to feed the sheep, capture toads, cuddle kittens, play with dogs, Buddy and Oprah, and undertake great adventures in the groves of trees scattered about the farm. Millie loved life and was ready for a new adventure whenever the opportunity arose. She enjoyed her flower gardens, needlework, and a good book. She was a talented baker and seamstress, able to turn out delicious cookies and gorgeous gowns, as well as mud pies and doll dresses. Millie was generous with her big strong hugs, tight hand squeezes, and lots of love. She was a member of Herman United Methodist Church. Millie passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the West Wind Village in Morris, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Scotty, brother Ted Kjorness, and sister Delores Moldenhauer. She will be missed by her sisters Linda Rarer of Norcross, Lenora Volker of Barrett, and Dorothy Fabian of Herman, brother Raymond (Eunice) Kjorness of Herman, numerous nieces and nephews, daughter Janette "Janie" Hansen and son-in-law Richard Hansen of Faribault, granddaughter Melissa "Missy" Hansen-Petrik and grandson-in-law Jeff Petrik of Knoxville, Tennessee, granddaughter Kristina Heintz and grandson-in-law Terry Heintz of Maple Grove, and great-granddaughters Johanna Petrik, Ellen Petrik, and Anna Heintz.
