Milton Glenway Schmdit was born on April 11, 1921 on the homestead established by his grandfather in Monson Township, Traverse County, Minnesota. He was baptized on May 1, 1921 by Rev. Faedtke and confirmed April 5, 1936 by Rev. Heine at St. John Lutheran Church. At the age of nine his family moved to the farm he resided on until his death. As a young man he was very involved in 4-H. He took his horse to the Minnesota State Fair and finished in third place out of one hundred entries. He attended country school until he began farming with his father. He met his future wife at Walther League Youth Group. Milton married Ione Tobeck on June 8, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church. The couple resided on the same farm their entire married life. To this union four children were born.

Milton was a proud farmer that always felt a great responsibility to be a good steward of his land. He also milked cows, had hogs, sheep, and a large chicken stock. Milton rarely took time for himself, but was very active raising his children. He was a member of the Farmers Union Organization, loved reading, gardening and hunting. As a child of the depression, Milton very rarely threw anything away. He was known to recycle things from his shed for another use. Milton was very proud that his grandparents were charter members of St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton.

Milton is survived by his wife Ione of Wheaton; children: Lee (Janette) Schmidt of Wheaton; Lynae (Gene) Berger of Wheaton; Lonnie Schmidt of Menahga, Minnesota; sister Mavis (Roy) Petersen of Wheaton; grandchildren: Michael (Erin) Martinek and their children Gunner, Karter and Oaklee; Paul Martinek and his son Jackson; Robbie (Jay) Schmidt and their children Taylin and Carver; Tara (James) Stotesbery and their children Parker, Dru and Carsyn; Tera Berger, Tony (Gina) Berger and their children Kyla, Hadley, Kinley and Paedyn; Levi (Christina) Berger and their children Miles and Lana; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sherilyn, brother Gilbert.
