Ramona "Mona" Ruth Schaffer of Alexandria, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at the age of 89.

A Celebration of Life will be held, Monday, September 3, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton with Fr. John Paul Knopik Celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Sanasack with special music by the Ave Maria Catholic Church Choir.

Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Urn bearers will be Mona's grandchildren: Mary Gallagher, Christie Jeffrey, Jon O'Donnell, Bryan O'Donnell, Nick Schaffer, Brittany Klemisch, Tyler Schaffer and Alicia Schaffer. Honorary urn bearers will be Mona's great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Monday morning at the church.

Mona was born January 22, 1929 in Wheaton, Minnesota to Gustav and Elphild (Lundquist) Opp. Mona graduated from Wheaton High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Harold "Kayo" Schaffer in 1948. Mona worked at the Wheaton Clinic. In 1999 the couple moved to Alexandria, Minnesota. She enjoyed being a mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mona took pleasure in shopping, eating out and being with family.

She is greatly missed by her two children: Deborah O'Donnell of Red Wing, MN; and Mark (Gina West) Schaffer of Fargo, ND; daughter-in-law Aggie Schaffer of Rosemount, MN; eight grandchildren: Mary (Tom) Gallagher and their children: Jackson and Kaitlyn; Christie (Rick) Jeffrey and their children: Tyson and Ryan; Jon O'Donnell; Bryan (Christine) O'Donnell and their children: Liam and Burke; Nick (Kellie) Schaffer; Brittany (Kelly) Klemisch; Tyler Schaffer; and Alicia Schaffer; sister Virginia Nyberg of Fargo, ND; brothers: Warren Opp of St. Cloud, Minnesota; and Norman Opp of Minneapolis, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mona was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years Harold "Kayo" Schaffer; son Gregory "Digger" Schaffer; parents Gustav and Elphild Opp; sister Barbara Iwanoski; and son-in-law Tom O'Donnell.
