Rosemary Joan Rustand, known as "Rosie" was born on January 12, 1930 in Spirit Lake, Iowa to Roy and Mary (Manley) Sheldon. She attended elementary schools in Spirit Lake and Montgomery, Iowa. She enjoyed tap dancing, acrobatics and basketball. Rosie would comment, "And I was good!" She graduated from Harris High School in 1948. When her parents farm was sold they moved to a farm near Norcross, MN. Rosie moved with them to help them get settled in their new house. On December 15, 1948 Rosie married Mads "Clifton" Rustand. They made their home on a farm north of Herman, MN. To this union eight children were born. Life on the farm was busy and Rosie enjoyed raising a large garden and canning all it produced. She loved flowers and had several flower beds around the yard. Following Clifton's death, Rosie, Steven, Tim and Corey moved to Pelican Rapids, MN. They made their home there until the boys had graduated from high school. In 1989 Rosie moved to Fergus Falls, MN where she enrolled in Home Health Care classes. The next fifteen years she enjoyed staying with her clients in their homes. Her clients enjoyed all her home cooked meals and tender loving care. After retiring from Home Health Care, Rosie continued sharing her compassion and caring for others by providing homemade soups and doughnuts to her Silver Leaf Apartment neighbors. She became the official apartment Bingo caller, which everyone looked forward to. Rosie continued to put her "green thumb" to work and had a variety of plants. Her favorite were her Christmas Cacti, which when in bloom she would call her kids to report the number of blooms they each had. Rosie is survived by her children: Larry (Roxanne) Rustand of Cedar Rapids, IA; Mary (Clifford)Schmitz of Wheaton; Mark (Jean) Rustand of Fergus Falls, MN; Dawn (Richard) Crouse of Alexandria, MN; Peggy (Michael) Corey of Herman, MN; Steve Rustand (Nancy Falk) of Park Rapids, MN; Timothy (Alisa) Rustand of Elizabeth, MN; and Corey (Caroline) Rustand of Cedar Rapids, IA; twenty three grandchildren and twenty eight great-grandchildren.
