Shirley Moerer, age 87, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Michael Breach officiating.
Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Dumont, Minnesota. Pallbearers will be Dan Carlson, Michael Johnston and Heidi Johnston.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.
Shirley Moerer was born to Jens and Lyla (Wade) Vesterby at the Morris Hospital in Morris, MN, on February 25, 1930. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnson, MN and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Chokio, MN.
She grew up on a farm south of Chokio before she and her parents moved into Chokio. She worked summers at the bakery and telephone company as an operator while going to school. She graduated from Chokio High School in 1948 and worked in Morris at Red Owl for two years.
Shirley moved to Minneapolis and worked as a bookkeeper at Donaldson Department Store. She worked for Metropolitan Life before she worked for GE Credit Department for four years. In that time she met and married Milo Peterson to which a son, Kevin was born. The couple divorced and she and Kevin moved back to Morris, MN. She met Ewald Moerer and later married at First Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. They adopted each other's children.
She enjoyed embroidery, cross-stitch, crewel, needlepoint, bingo, being on the computer and playing cards with the family. Shirley loved quality time with her children and grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her five children: David (Diane), Darrel (DeeDee), Deby (Rod) Byholm, Dona (Ben) Schepens and Kevin (Joan); nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ewald, five brothers and one sister.
