Sylvia Edith Fakler was born July 28, 1918 in Beach, North Dakota to Frank and Mary (Mason) Fakler. She lived on a farm south of Beach in her early years. After high school Sylvia worked at Painted Rock Canyon in the North Dakota Badlands, near Medora, North Dakota where she met Arthur Polis. They were united in marriage on July 29, 1937. A daughter Arletta was born on August 17, 1939. Art worked in the construction industry so they moved around a lot through the years. Art bought into a gravel business in Valley City, North Dakota in 1947. Sylvia was a stay at home mom during those years. The gravel business was sold in 1958 and Art went back into construction work, moving to Fargo, North Dakota. The couple moved to the Martin Lake area north of White Bear Lake, Minnesota in 1968. Sylvia then worked at a factory in Lindstrom, Minnesota and also a Greenhouse in White Bear Lake. Arthur passed away on January 12, 1985. Sylvia moved to Dumont, Minnesota in June of 1986. While in Dumont she became quite an artist, taking painting lessons and doing a lot of artwork as well as wood crafts. She also enjoyed her yard immensely and flowers were her passions besides a vegetable garden which everyone got to reap the harvest. Sylvia also enjoyed family gatherings and being with her sister, Donna. Sylvia passed away on February 3, 2014 at Grace Home in Graceville, Minnesota. Sylvia is survived by one daughter Arletta (Delmer) Hauschild of Dumont; a grandson Darcy Hauschild of Dickinson, North Dakota; granddaughter Alexis (Roger) Doll of Dumont; her sister Donna Chapp of Maplewood, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
