Verna Ekberg

Verna Ekberg, age 93 died Monday January 30th, 2012. She was born August 9, 1918, in Benson Minnesota, the daughter of William and Ebba (Nelson) Knutson. She graduated from Benson High School and worked in the Swift County AAA office until she married Irven Ekberg of Herman in 1952. They farmed east of Herman until 1964 when they moved into Herman, spending their summers at Lake Minnewaska, Starbuck. Verna was a longtime member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. Verna spent the last year in the Minnewaska nursing home in Starbuck. Verna was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her three stepdaughters: Jean Maxwell of Woodstock, Illinois, Eileen (Wes) Scott of Richfield, Minnesota and Marilyn (Ted) Scherer of Eugene, Oregon; two step grandsons and their spouses, four step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Esther Nelson of Red Wing, Minnesota, two nieces, one nephew and other relatives and friends. A Memorial service will be announced at a later date in Herman.
