Vernon Paul Krauth, age 83, of Dumont, Minnesota passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton with Fr. Joe Vandeberg Celebrant. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, May 28th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at the Ranney-Bainbridge Funeral Home in Wheaton. Visitation will continue Thursday morning one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, rural Dumont. Vernon was born on September 24, 1930 in Graceville, Minnesota to parents John "Jack" and Rosella Krauth of Dumont, Minnesota. He attended school in Dumont and Graceville until completing eighth grade. He was a lifelong resident of the Dumont area. After his education he worked for farmers in the Graceville area. In the spring of 1949, he began working for Brink Farms where he worked until the time of his passing. Vernon served in the United States Army during the Korean War from January of 1952 until December of 1953. Following his service Vernon belonged to the Wheaton American Legion Post # 80 and VFW Post #5909. The passions of his life were farming, family and friends. Everywhere he went he knew people, and they knew him. Laughter and fun followed him. On November 22, 1958 Vernon married Mildred Ries at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg, South Dakota. From this union six children were born. Vernon is survived by his wife Millie of Dumont; Children: Teresa (Glen) Roberge of Breckenridge, Minnesota; Tammy Gardner of Villa Ridge, Missouri; Paul (Isabel) Krauth of Suwanee, Georgia; Diane (Steven) Biggs of Wheatland, Wyoming; Karen (Scott) Olson of Fargo, North Dakota and Philip (Toni) Brink of Dumont; one sister MaryAnn (Art) Fridgen of Dumont; one brother Mike (Jean) Krauth of Waseca, Minnesota; eighteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Vernon was preceded in death by his daughter Judee Engstrom; son-in-law Mike Gardner; parents Jack and Rosella Krauth; brother and sister-in-law Ronnie and Betty Krauth; and two great-grandchildren: Brody Berlinger and Dazmyn Gardner.
