Beth Young

Beth Young, age 56, of Norcross, MN, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on May 31st, 2020.

Beth Renee (Erickson) Young was born September 2, 1963 in Breckenridge, MN, to Robert and Lila (Heldt) Erickson. She and her five brothers enjoyed growing up on their farm just outside of Breckenridge. After graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1982, she attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, where she earned a degree in accounting and a certificate in computer operations. She always loved math and was very good with numbers. Around this time, Beth welcomed her first son, Corey. Beth started working for the USDA Farm Service Agency in Richland County after she completed college.

In 1988, Beth was united in marriage to Keith Sorensen and moved to Wheaton, MN. To this union, three children were born; Adam, Ashley, and Kelsey. Over the next several years, Beth stayed at home to raise her kids. She helped out on a temporary basis during the FSA’s busy seasons until she took a full time position as a Program Technician in January of 2000. On October 29th, 2005, Beth was united in marriage to Jeff Young and they were blessed with a son, Logan.

In 2005, Beth was diagnosed with her first brain tumors. Although the tumors were benign, they were fast growing. Over the next 15 years, Beth courageously endured two major surgeries to remove the tumors, rehabilitation, multiple rounds of radiation, and chemotherapy infusions to stop the growth. Ultimately Beth developed infections as a result of her previous surgeries and was unable to overcome them. She was a fighter until the end and never complained about her health struggles.

Beth loved being a mom and made sure to spend one on one time with each of her kids. She was a cheerleader to her kids at their various school, church, and sporting events and always made sure to let them know how proud she was of them. She never ended a phone call without telling her kids that she loved them. In her spare time, Beth enjoyed gardening, cross stitching, spending time with family, and shopping with her girls. She enjoyed being an active member of Bethlehem Covenant Church. Beth also loved her job and her work family. She worked at the Farm Service Agency for 25+ years until her health forced her to retire in September of 2019.

Beth will be remembered for her kind, gentle spirit. She always thought of others before herself and never said a bad word about anybody. She was friendly to everyone she came in contact with and always had a smile on her face. Above all, she loved Jesus with all of her heart and shared that love with those she met. We know she is now resting comfortably in the arms of Jesus.

Beth is survived by her loving husband, Jeff Young; mother, Lila Erickson; brothers: Greg (Nancy) Erickson, Steven (Angela) Erickson, Brian (Megan) Erickson, David (Angela) Erickson, and Mark (Sarah) Erickson; children: Corey Lucas, Adam Sorensen (Meagan Dresow), Ashley (Tyler) Halvorson, Kelsey (Matthew) Pederson, and Logan Young; grandchildren: Shelbi, Blake, Jade, Penny, Harlow, Hudson, Wyatt, and Sawyer, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Erickson, and her grandparents.
