Craig Fiedler

Craig Fiedler, 59, passed away on May 8, 2021 at his residence in Moorhead, MN.

Craig Raymond Fiedler was born on July 22, 1961 to Raymond and Marlene Fiedler in Wheaton, MN, the first of four children. Craig grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1979. He went to Moorhead Tech for Culinary School (aka chef school) obtaining a two year degree.

Craig worked for Buttrey Foods in Moorhead in the early years as a baker. He then went to work for Costco Wholesale in June of 1987. He was hired as a baker to help set up the first in-warehouse bakeries. Craig wore many different “hats” in his Costco career, from baker, to bakery manager, to floor manager, receiving manager, meat manager, administrative manager, and finally assistant warehouse manager. His Costco career started by relocating to Seattle and then transferring to the warehouse in Billings. Then the move home to the West Fargo warehouse.

Craig enjoyed the old bakery days the most but as Assistant Manager his biggest joy was meeting the many members, who would eventually become friends, as he would walk the warehouse floor several times a day to be sure things were running smoothly.

During those days at Buttrey Foods, Craig met Linda while working together in the bakery. Life led them to a move to Seattle where they both worked at Costco and stayed for five years. They were married on August 12, 1989 in Fargo, ND. They moved to Billings, MT in 1991, settling in a house outside Joliet, MT, described by Craig as the best days of their lives. Craig loved hunting, especially pheasants. He got his first dog, a black lab named Hobbes, one month after they settled in their Montana home. He also enjoyed deer hunting and ice fishing. He spent many of his days off in the open field, woods or on the ice. He also liked woodworking, refinishing several old pieces of furniture and even took up log furniture building which included gathering the timbers, drilling the holes, and assembling them. He made several beds and tables, always proud of the unique style that came out of the finished product.

Another hobby was planting various fruit trees. He started his own small orchard. He grew pears, blueberries, cherries, apricots, and apples. Craig’s hobby list was long, and included: cooking, grilling, using his Traeger smoker, he was never afraid to try a new recipe. He was an avid Rosemeade pottery collector, he enjoyed the ‘thrill of the find’ in small antique stores. His current position in the North Dakota Rosemeade Pottery Club (NDPCS) was that of vice-president. He cherished his Rosemeade friends and loved learning from and connecting with others who shared the same passion.

Craig was baptized and confirmed in the Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, MN. Upon his marriage, he converted to Lutheran and was an active member of Joliet Lutheran Church in Montana for over twenty years and was a current member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN.

Craig is survived by his wife Linda, of nearly 32 years, his father Raymond Fiedler (Wheaton, MN), his 105 year-old grandmother Evelyn Kidder (Fergus Falls, MN), his siblings: Lynn (Rick) Farr (Cold Spring, MN), Rick (Dori) Fiedler (Rothsay, MN), Kim (Brian) Hankel (Hartford, SD). He had a special bond with each of his nieces and nephews and was always so very proud of them: Nick, Cole, Victoria, Noah, Brooke, Dylan, Dana (Marce), Kayla, Tess (Cameron), Lance, Lauren, Jacey, and Sydney. He is also survived by special friends: Danny, Corrie, Adam, Tayler, Levi, and Logan, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceding Craig in death include his beloved mother, Marlene, Grandpa Larry, Grandpa Clarence, Grandma Sophie, and Grandpa Con.

Special thanks to the Sanford Hospice Nurses for their kind and compassionate care during this difficult time.
