MaryAnn Grace Vanderpoel was born May 27, 1929 to parents Verl and Goldie (Tesch) Vanderpoel at Tolley, ND. The family moved to Big Stone County when MaryAnn was two years old and lived on a farm. MaryAnn attended country school and graduated from Ortonville High School. MaryAnn met Marvin Arndt on a blind date and the couple was married four months later. Her father was not very happy at first as she was still attending college at St. Cloud and home on the weekend working on the farm milking cows by hand. She was united in marriage to Marvin on February 19, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Clinton, Minnesota. To this union three sons were born. MaryAnn helped on the farm, loved to fish and loved “family get togethers”.

The couple resided in Foster Township where Marvin farmed. As the children grew MaryAnn worked as a dietician at the Graceville Hospital and at the Graceville Liquor Store. She later worked at Mallard Point, Carlson’s Café, the Beardsley Liquor Store and Bobby Jo’s Café. MaryAnn taught Sunday School and was secretary at Holden Lutheran Church in Beardsley. She enjoyed their cabin on Big Stone Lake where she loved to fish and watch her grandchildren swim. MaryAnn and Marvin enjoyed traveling with trips to Hawaii, Florida, Arizona and Alaska. Marvin was a talented accordion and harmonica player. They would often entertain at the farm or cabin and Marvin and his brothers would provide the music. MaryAnn loved very much when her family would get together. Marvin passed away May 31, 2002.

MaryAnn is survived by three sons: Myron Arndt of Chokio, MN; Gary (Donna) Arndt of Beardsley; and Maynard (Beth) Arndt of Graceville; twelve grandchildren: Trevor Arndt of Sunburg, MN; Shauna (Lonnie) Stokes of Cushing, MN; Jordan Tonya Arndt of Willmar, MN; Derek Arndt of Sioux Falls, SD; Stacey Kotek of Wheaton; Dustin (Tonya) Arndt of Preston, MN; Nicole (Chris) Hansen of Browns Valley, MN; Darin (Jen) Arndt of Beardsley, MN; Jackie Arndt of Spicer, MN; Jason (Jackie) Arndt of Graceville, MN; Jeremy (Kelly) Arndt of Clinton, MN; and Brandon Arndt of Morton, MN;  and twenty-three great-grandchildren; sister Terri (Raleigh) Davis of Elgin, MN; sisters-in-law: Gladys Paulson of Ortonville, MN; Flordeen Drewelow of Graceville, MN; Lois Arndt of Alexandria, MN; Marlene Rau of St. Cloud, MN; and daughter-in-law Sandy Stotesbury of Hennin, MN.

MaryAnn was preceded in death by husband Marvin, parents, sister Dorothy Rosolack, and nephew Steven Rosolack.
