Sadie Berger

On the morning of June 21, 2022, Sadie Berger, longtime resident of the Wheaton/Norcross area, passed away at the age of 97.

Sadie was born to Lawrence and Jennie McCollor on June 7, 1925, at Coronach, Saskatchewan.  Within a few years her family moved to the Herman area. She was months away from graduating from Herman High School, but the War and lingering depression intervened, and she needed to help her family by working in a local restaurant.  It was there that Sadie met her future husband and in September of 1945 she married Axel Berger of Norcross. Together they raised four sons, Larry, Neil, Gene, and Jan, on their farm.  She was a charter member and very involved in the Redpath Homemakers Club while on the farm and for years after. She wintered for many years in California and Arizona where she was active in welcoming new residents to the area as well as contributing to other organizations.

Sadie enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, knitting, quilting and playing cards. She happily shared and passed these skills down to her family members. She especially loved attending and supporting events and activities involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sadie is survived by four sons: Larry (Darlene) of Newcastle, WY; Neil (Gayle) of Kenai, AK; Gene (Lynae) of Wheaton, MN; Jan (Jhen) of Sun City, AZ; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Robert (Flash), Orlin (Curly) and Michael.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Wildwood Cemetery near Wheaton with Fr. Stanley Wieser officiating.
